Nearly Natural Product Review

Hello all =). I have two new products that I've been trying out for about a month now and they are both Nearly Natural products. As stated before, I love the customer service that I receive every time I interact with the CEO of this company. I am always pleased with the fast shipping and the amount of respect he has for all of his customers, not just me personally. This time around I had the pleasure of trying out two new products not a part of the Argan oil line, Natural sheen and silk n' shine.

Nearly Natural Natural Sheen

IngredientsCyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Isopropyl Palmitate, Fragrance / Parfum, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil / Olea Europaea, Cympogon Schoenanthus Extract / Cympogon Schoenanthus, Betula Alba Bark Extract / Betula Alba, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil / Simmondsia Chinensis, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil / Carthamus Tinctorius, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dimethiconol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene. SH

DirectionsAfter shampooing and conditioning apply Natural Sheen to damp or dry hair. Take small section and spray lightly to entire length of hair, glide flat iron through section and release iron. Repeat on entire head. When finished flip hair upside down and brush through, flip back over and style.

ClaimsNatural Sheen replenishes natural oils back to hair and provides protection when using heat or flat irons. Flat irons glide smoothly through the hair leaving behind a lustrous shine and radiance not to be surpassed. Containing multi weight silicones it protects against thermal damage as it smooths, conditions, and seals the hair.

My Opinion: This is a product that is mainly used for applying heat, a flat iron to be exact. I am trying to stay away from heat as much as possible so I did not use a flat iron with this product. However, I can say that I do love this product. I did use it although I didn't apply heat because I wanted to see what other use I could get from the product. As with the Argan Oil conditioner and shampoo, this has an awesome smell, smells like a sweet candy. As I mentioned many times before I do love a product that smells good. I used this sheen when I wore curly styles such as braid outs, bantu knot outs, and flexi rod sets. I have to say that this sheen is lightweight, it's not oily, it doesn't leave my hair greasy, it leaves a wonderful sheen on my hair, and it holds curls. Prior to using this product, with any curly style that I did, the curls would fall by the end of the day. However, with this sheen my curls last all day and I have no problem no matter the weather condition. Since this is a thermal protectant I thought that it would be good to apply to my hair since I would be in the sun. Some people tend to forget that our hair also needs to be protected from the sun! Although I did not use this product for its intended purpose I did find other uses for it. I do plan on using this when I flat iron to see what results I receive. This product is definitely a keeper because of all it does without using heat on my hair. I have no negatives about this product.

Nearly Natural Silk N' Shine

Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance/Parfum, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam), Seed oil, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate. NTR

Directions: After shampooing and conditioning, rinse and towel dry hair. Squeeze one small drop into palm of hands and work into hair. Proceed to blow dry for straight looks. Let naturally dry for free looks. May reapply after finished style for more shine and separation.

Claims: Silk N' Shine transforms and redefines any texture hair. Loaded with performance extracts, it makes curly hair smooth or natural looking, straight hair becomes brilliant, sleek and full of shine. Hair takes on an unbelievable form.

My opinion: Yet another product that I really enjoy using. For me this is equivalent to a serum. It leaves my hair with a great shine that last for a couple of days and it really makes my styles pop. As mentioned above I'm not using heat on my hair so I didn't use this product before blow drying but I used it when I would air dry. I've used this product on both dry and damp hair and both ways the results are the same. I separate my hair into four sections and apply a very small amount to my hand and apply it to each section. My air dried hair becomes smooth, shiny, and it lacks frizz. You don't need a lot of this product at all, a little goes a long way. This also has a sweet smell that I truly enjoy. This is a definite keeper for me. I will be using this in conjunction with the natural sheen when I do use heat on my hair. My hair has never felt or looked so good when I air dry my hair. It's not greasy, heavy, too oily, or drying at all. I recommend this to anyone who is looking to add shine to their hair, eliminate frizz, and get a heat protectant all in one.

Both of these products are something I will continue to use. I truly enjoy the products that I've tried from the Nearly Natural collection, besides the shampoo. This is my honest opinion and I am not being paid for this nor am I affiliated with this company. The customer service is one of a kind, shipping is fast, presentation is awesome, and I've enjoyed the products that I've received. Both of these products are alcohol free which is a major plus. Alcohol dries the hair out so having products without alcohol is amazing. I highly recommend both products to all women with any hair type. I honestly don't have any cons for either one of the products. The only suggestion I would offer is that the Silk N' Shine bottle be changed. It's hard to read what's on the bottle since the bottle as well as the product is clear.

I would like to thank the CEO of the company for sending me these products as well as an abundance of the Nearly Natural Moisture Mist that I love so much.

Here are a few pictures of my hair after using these products:

Flexi Rod Set Instructional

Hello lovelies. I thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you find this insert helpful as well as interesting. In this blog I will cover the steps I used to achieve my flexi rod set. You may alter things to your liking, but this is what I did for my hair.

  • Deep conditioned with heat for 20 minutes using the saran wrap method and left it in overnight.
  • The next day I shampooed with Cream of Nature detangling and conditioning shampoo.
  • Detangled in the shower with conditioner in my hair, under running water, in sections using a wide tooth comb.
  • Rinsed with cool water for my last rinse.
  • T shirt dried for about 10 minutes and then applied my Nearly Natural moisture mist.
  • Once my hair dried about 80% I oiled my scalp with JBCO and EVCO.
  • I parted my hair the way I wanted it prior to styling.
  • I used my fingers to make sections. I do not use a comb because it makes it harder to hide the parts.
  • With every section I applied my homemade whipped shea butter, nearly natural flexible styling cream, nearly natural silk ‘n shine and then detangled with a wide tooth comb.
  • I then wrapped my hair around the flexi rod and then continued to roll toward the back.
  • I used four purple flexi rod in the back, one purple rod on the top center, and two blue rods on both sides of my head.
  • I put on my satin bonnet and continued to air dry overnight.
  • The following day I took the flexi rods out and sprayed the Nearly Natural natural sheen and began to separate each section.
  • I separated and styled as desired and applied a little more natural sheen to add shine.

I hope this was helpful and that it cleared up anything that was unclear in the video. I will wear my hair in this style for about a week. Make sure you leave any questions below. I will be doing a review on the both silk ‘n shine and the natural sheen.

Transitioning Files: Episode One

Hello to all of my transitioning ladies, relaxed ladies, natural ladies, and of course those undecided ladies =). This will be the first "episode" of my transitioning files. This is the first of many as this will be a very long journey. Lets begin with the basics shall we. I was natural until I was around the age of eight years old, I believe. I've always had long thick and full natural hair but it became to much for my mom to handle so I became relaxed. I made the decision to transition this year, 2010. So I was natural for eight years, relaxed for 10 years, and I plan on transitioning for the next 2 years, 48 months, or 104 weeks however you want to phrase it. My last relaxer was July 17, 2010 so I am currently 16 weeks post. So I've managed to get 16 weeks under my belt and I only have 88 more weeks to go, not that bad right =).

My Transitioning Regimen:
  • Deep conditioning weekly is a must for me and something I can never do without
  • Cowashing my hair as many times as I need during the week
  • Moisturizing and sealing my hair on a daily basis
  • Light protein once a week and a hard protein once a month
  • ACV rinses once a month really helps with moisture
  • Protective styling and low manipulation styles works wonders for me
  • I only detangle in the shower never on dry hair
  • Moisture, moisture, moisture is the biggest part of my regimen
All in all I have no complaints on this journey of mine. I haven't come across any major issues that I haven't been able to solve. No excessive shedding or breakage. I've figured out my go to styles so managing my hair isn't a problem. This is the longest time that I've been without a relaxer so I'm proud of myself for doing so well so far *pats self on the back*. I'm so anxious to finally make it to the 6th month of transitioning and beyond. I'm ready to see my texture and see the fullness of my hair. Everything is great for me as of now, just hoping it stays this way.

Just a small recap. I will not be doing the big chop at any time during my transition. I will however trim my hair when I apply heat. I rarely use heat on my hair and I'm trying to stay away from heat during my transition but I will be using heat about every six months or so. The last time I applied heat on my hair was at the end of July or the very beginning of August (either the first or second day) approximately two weeks after heat was applied on my relaxer day. I know I know that wasn't the best but I've vowed to leave heat alone so that I don't cause damage. I do plan to apply heat in February for Valentines day and I'll do my first trim then and also a length check since I haven't done one. Only 88 weeks left to go on this transition wish me luck =)

Nearly Natural Product Review

I was sent all four of these products to test and review. The company is called Nearly Natural and this is my first time trying out any of these problems. There will be a full review of each product below. I hope that this helps any of you that may be interested in some new products. The customer service was beyond impeccable and I would gladly do business with them because of the great service. I emailed the company with my questions and within a few hours I received a response. On top of the quick response, I was speaking directly to the CEO of the company and not someone who is affiliated with the company. It is remarkable to know that I can speak directly to the owner of the company if I have any issues. The shipping was also wonderful. I didn't have to pay for anything at all and once my samples were shipped it only took two days to get to me. The samples were nicely packaged in a box filled with potpourri which was also an extra bonus. Feel free to check out this company and the products at www.thenearlynaturalcollection.com
For those that know me or have seen any of my videos, I'd rather go without shampoo. Shampoo can be very stripping and drying to the hair so I try to stay away from it as much as possible. However, I wanted to give this a try to see if this product would be any different. I tried this a couple of times and did not like the results. After shampooing I had to follow with conditioner because my hair felt dry, hard, and stripped as if I had done a protein treatment, which I did not. All in all I did not like this product but I would recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a good clarifying shampoo. I will use this as a clarifier and I will use it once a month, but I will not purchase this anymore after this bottle is gone.

My beloved Argan Oil conditioner. The smell of this conditioner is out of this world. I couldn't quite put my finger on what the smell was but now I think I've got it. It smells like an orange and cream Popsicle. I'm very big on smells, especially when it comes to things I put into my hair. I adore this conditioner for many reasons, the smell being one. The consistency of the product is one that is very rich, thick, and creamy. In comparison to my V05 the consistency is very different. I have very thick and coarse hair and my hair seems to love the thicker consistency of conditioners. This conditioner gave me a slip that was out of this world. I'm currently transitioning and my hair is very thick and the new growth is definitely present but I was able to comb my hair without a problem. You don't need much of this product; a little definitely goes a long way. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that is in need of a great moisturizing conditioner. After one use my hair was easily detangled, manageable, soft, and shiny. I love this product and it will continue to be a staple of mine until it no longer works, which I doubt will happen anytime soon.

I've tried this product initially by following the directions on the back of the bottle. I didn't like the results I got on damp hair so I decided to use it on dry hair. When my hair was damp and I applied it to my hair I didn't notice much of a difference so I didn't think it was working. However, when I used it on dry hair for a flexi rod set as well as for a braid out the results were phenomenal. On dry hair this product instantly moisturizes and it leaves my hair feeling great for at least 2 days after styling. This is a great product for any style and I highly recommend it to anyone that needs moisture in their hair. The end results are fluffy, soft, and manageable.

Initially I didn't see the results of this product either. I followed the directions step by step and I still didn't notice any changes in my hair. I also used this product when my hair was dry and I was styling it for the next day. The first time I tried it on dry hair I fell in love with it instantly. It's a very light weight serum and it doesn't leave my hair feeling greasy or weighed down. You don't need much of this product to get the job done. This product gives me great shine and keeps my hair moisturized longer than usual. I use this as a sealant more than anything and it will remain in rotation in my regimen.

If you're need of moisture instantly, then this is the product for you. My hair sometimes dries out very easily and I need a pick me up through the day. This is a great leave in conditioner that can be used after a shampoo wash or cowash. It can also be used on a daily basis if you would like. I've used this on both dry and wet hair and the results both times are great. This leaves my hair unbelievably soft and manageable. Since I am getting further along in my stretch my new growth tends to be very dry and hard to manage without something on it. I love the way the moisture mist makes my hair feel and it will remain a staple in my regimen. I was searching for a leave in that could eliminate the frizzies, hydrate my hair, but not leave it soaking wet after and I've found it. This is the best leave in conditioner I've ever used and I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new leave in conditioner. It contains some great ingredients that lead to the great results that I've witnessed.

Overall I LOVE all of these products besides the shampoo. As mentioned above the customer service, shipping, and packaging were all amazing. I am grateful to have received these samples and I will definitely continue to do business with Nearly Natural.
